The training lasts six weeks and is a cadet/midshipman’s first major task on his or her journey to becoming commissioned officers. Congressman McCarthy released the following statement:"Prior to completing their basic cadet training, our nominees were already incredibly impressive. With this first step under their belts, they continue to make our community proud. Join me in congratulating them on their success and wishing them luck as they take on this next chapter."You can learn more about Congressman McCarthy's nominees below: Image Zoe Stanford, 18, daughter of Chandler and Hiroko Stanford, is a graduate of Sherman E. Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California.She is a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Image Austin Toomer, 18, son of Bobby and Cathryn Toomer, is a  graduate of California City High School in California City, California.He is a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Image Douglas Bui, 18, son of Dung Bui and Tammy Nguyen is a graduate of Sherman E. Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California.He is a midshipman at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.  Image Quentin Lueck, 18, son of Joel and Shannon Lueck, is a graduate of Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, California.He is a midshipman at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. The U.S. Service Academies are among the most highly respected and challenging educational programs in the nation. The academies look for well-rounded young men and women who have demonstrated character, academic excellence, physical aptitude and have served in leadership positions within their school and community.
